Abstract
Purpose : To evaluate the clinical and radiological results of using the press-fit technique for cementless hemispheric acetabular cups.

Materials and Methods : We evaluated 100 consecutive primary total hip arthroplasties (84 patients) in which harris-Galante ¥±, Porous, titanium fiber coated cups were used. Seventy-four hips (63 patients) were followed up for more than four years, of which 61 hips (53 patients) were performed with press-fit fixation. The gap between the Harris-Galante cup and acetabulum was measured according to the zone described by DeLee and Charnley. We evaluated the cup inclination, migration, and Harris hip score at final follow-up.

Results : The average gaps between bone and press-fit cup at immediate postoperative radiographs were zone¥°-0.4 mm, zone¥±-0.7 mm, and zone¥²-0.1 mm; at three-month follow-up, zone¥°-0.4 mm, zone¥±-0.5 mm, and zone¥²-0.1 mm; at six-month follow-up, zone¥°-0.3 mm, zone¥±-0.4 mm, and zone¥²-0.0 mm; at one-year follow-up, zone¥°-0.3 mm, zone¥±-0.2 mm, and zone¥²-0.0 mm; and at final follow-up, zone¥°-0.2 mm, zone¥±-0.3 mm, and zone¥²-0.0 mm. There was no change of cup inclination angle or cup migration at the final follow-up radiograph. The mean Harris hip score was 95.6 at final follow-up.

Conclusion : Cementless, press-fit cup insertion leads to good radiological and clinical results at minimum four-year follow-up.
